August 2011

Dear Parents,

Another summer has disappeared right before our very eyes!  My summer was filled with family time.  Though it was hard for me to drop Simon, my two year old son, off for his first day at a new school, I am thankful to have had so much time to watch him grow and play all summer long.  There’s nothing cuter than a two year old singing “You Are My Sunshine” incorrectly: “You make me happy when cars are gray.”  I hope you made many happy memories as well this summer!

We are excited to welcome back your children on Tuesday, September 6.  It is a full day of school beginning at 8:05AM and ending at 3:05PM (Grades 1 and 2 are dismissed by their teachers at 3:02PM).  Please remember that first grade students only are permitted to enter through the gymnasium with their parents on the first two days of school.  First grade parents, please do not park on Land Place as you will block the valet service available to all of the families in the school who make use of it.  After the first two days of school, first grade students are welcome to use the Land Place entrance or main entrance to the school.   All other students will enter through Land Place and the main entrance beginning on the first day of school.
The school year is always filled with excitement from the curricula taught in each classroom to events and activities that enrich the experiential knowledge of each child who walks through our doors. We understand that the country’s eye is on education and it should be as our children are our most important asset.  We will work hard this year, as we do each year, to prepare our students for life beyond our four walls.  We will analyze the data from recent state assessments and we will make meaning where we can, but more importantly we will plan for the unique needs of the children that sit at each desk in each classroom.

I encourage you to be involved in our school and in our district.  Attend Back to School Night (September 20), Parent Teacher Conferences, PTA Meetings, Board of Education Meetings, and more.  Your role in your child’s education is the most important one.  You set a standard and culture for learning in your lives and in your home.  I look forward to working with you throughout the year and beyond.

I hope that this letter and the enclosed pages answer your questions.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call me at 678-7581.

Sincerely,

Joanna Kletter
