8th Grade Discovery
by Ian Cutler
The students in the 8th grade Discovery
classes are busy creating models of memorials to honor famous people
or events. Groups are creating memorials to remember people like Ted
Williams and Frank Sinatra, while others are creating memorials for
events such as the Holocaust and the war in Iraq. Groups that decided
to create memorials for 9/11 have registered to submit their proposals
to WTC Board for consideration for the memorial being constructed at
the World Trade Center site. Knowing that Maya Lin’s proposal
was selected for the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. when she
was only 20 makes their proposals a real possibility.
Students are working hard to represent
their subjects in the best possible way using symbolism and important
poems and quotes. The students are looking to discover a meaningful
way to express the significance of their memorials. This has been an
exciting and enlightening experience for all of the students involved.
