Oceanside Middle School Wins the State Program of Excellence Award at New York State Social Studies Conference in Rye, NY

Dan Keegan Honored as NY State’s Most Outstanding Middle School Teacher

At the New York State Social Studies Conference held in Rye, NY during March 13th, 14th, and 15th, Oceanside Middle School was awarded the Program of Excellence Award for 2002-3 school year. The award for the middle school’s Pre-AP Program was presented at the opening breakfast of the conference on March 13th. The program is a technology driven program, which differentiates curriculum for potential AP students allowing opportunities for independent learning, world applications to United States history, and thesis creation. Pictured below are Dan Keegan, Danielle Lattka, and Kevin Sheehan receiving the award on behalf of Oceanside Middle School.

The Awards Banquet to close the conference also prominently featured Oceanside Middle School as Dan Keegan was received the award as New York State’s outstanding middle school teacher. Dan was honored last year as Long Island’s outstanding middle school teacher and this award was the next step in a recognition for Dan’s talents that exceeds far beyond the walls of Oceanside Middle School. Traditionally, these type awards come to teachers at the end of a distinguished career. Dan’s award at the beginning of his career recognizes an expertise and a passion that reflects a level excellence that is indeed unique. The Oceanside Middle School and the Oceanside Community congratulate Dan on this distinguished honor. The real winners in this award are the children of Oceanside who experience Mr. Keegan every day in the classroom.
