EXTRA/CO-CURRICULAR
MATH AT OMS
This year has been a banner year for extra and co-curricular math
activities at Oceanside Middle School. One hundred and forty-four
of our students have achieved honors and recognition for a variety
of in-school and regional events including Mathletes, the Long Island
Math Fair, the Gudreau Museum Pi Day Contest, the American Math Competition,
and the Continental Math League Contests.
Some of the notable achievements include:
Six eighth graders achieved Honor Roll status in the American Math
Competition.
Thirteen seventh graders and twelve eighth graders prepared, entered
and presented independent research projects for the Long Island Math
Fair. Fifteen of these students are medallists and will be competing
for gold, silver and bronze medals on April 11th in Round 2 of the
Fair.
All of our accelerated math students participated in the Continental
Math League. One seventh grader, Andrea Lucido, answered every question
in every competition giving her a perfect score and making her a top
scorer in the country!
Thirteen seventh graders and seven eighth graders comprised our Nassau
County Interscholastic Mathlete Team. The results and awards are still
pending from the League.
Thirty-six of our students prepared projects for this year's Gudreau
Math Museum Pi Day Contest. (Pi Day is March 14th or 3.14) The judging
for winning projects will be concluded by April 12th.
