Goals & Objectives

2011-2012


GOAL 1: To review programs, curriculum/instructional strategies and assessment tools in order to evaluate and improve the achievement of students with different ability levels as they work toward meeting the New York State Standards.

 

Objective 1:  To examine the Common Core State Standards for grades K-12 and to provide teachers, parents, and students with an awareness of these standards while beginning the process of directly implementing the new Common Core requirements.

 

Objective 2: To implement a genre specific writing continuum in grades 1-6 that will allow students to have the opportunity to write for multiple purposes and varied audiences throughout elementary school.   

 

Objective 3: To monitor the newly implemented enVision elementary mathematics program, while making the appropriate adjustments to key lessons to meet the requirements of the new Common Core State Standards.

 

Objective 4: To ensure that the Response to Intervention (RTI) plans in math and reading in appropriate grades are fully implemented in an effort to best meet and exceed the RTI requirement in Federal law.

 

Objective 5:  To create more opportunities for students at all levels to develop research skills including the continued development of research projects at the elementary level, a shared social studies and English research paper at the middle level, and a new research continuum for grades 9-12 in English at the high school level. 

 

Objective 6:  To examine the effectiveness of Regents level classes at the high school to ensure that the instruction is engaging and differentiated appropriately to support all students in the mastery of concepts and skills as demonstrated on Regents exams.

 

Objective 7:  To examine the possibility of providing all 8th grade students the opportunity to participate in the Living Environment Regents program in order to reduce curricular redundancy and to provide students with the opportunity to take college and advanced level science classes, or other course options, at the high school level.

 

Objective 8:  To review the middle school master schedule in an effort to make more efficient use of instructional time and to provide support and opportunities for student enrichment by their core academic teachers.

 

GOAL 2: To review and evaluate current research in effective models of supervision, evaluation and staff development.

 

Objective 1:  To examine the new requirements for Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) as it applies to Oceanside teachers and administrators.

 

GOAL 3:  To continue to develop a wellness program that addresses and promotes healthy options in terms of the nutritional, physical, and emotional development of all students.

 

Objective 1: To enhance and establish programs that address the risky behaviors of drug and alcohol use among our students.

 

Objective 2:  To expand our social and emotional literacy program which has been implemented in all K-6 classrooms, to middle school students and appropriate high school staff members.

 

Objective 3:  To continue the districts' bully prevention efforts to ensure that programs and rules of conduct  support the principles of the Dignity for All Students Act.

 

Objective 4:  To implement the new district-wide health curriculum that addresses emotional well-being, Internet safety, cyber-bullying, bullying, drug and alcohol use, risky behaviors, and appropriate use of social networking sites.

 

GOAL 4: To increase the use of technology as an enhancement to student learning and as a management information tool.

 

Objective 1: To continue to explore, evaluate, and promote the use of effective technologies to enhance student learning, including SMARTboard technology, Moodle, CPS clickers, as well as other programs and technologies.

 

Objective 2:  To upgrade all computer labs in the district to state of the art machines to enable greater and more potent use of technology in the classroom and to explore the use of virtual desktops to enhance storage capacity, speed and access for students and staff.

 

GOAL 5: To ensure that our facilities are adequate to meet the needs of all students.

 

Objective 1: To continue to monitor all capital construction projects.

 

Objective 2: To continue to provide all stakeholders with timely and appropriate information about the initiation and ongoing progress of all capital projects.
